The Lab - A Workshop Series Focused on Design & Creativity

As the Design & Education Coordinator for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I was responsible for managing The Lab, a workshop series focused on design and creativity. The series provides students, regardless of their field of study or artistic ability, with the co-curricular opportunity to exercise their creativity, as well as understand the importance of design and how it relates to aspects of their personal, academic and professional lives. Sessions are generally kept small, are free and open to all UNC students.

When I started my position, I conducted a thorough analysis of The Lab to clearly define its purpose and direction. I established learning outcomes and goals, as well as three workshop classifications in order to ensure a variety of intentional programming. Classifications include: 1. basic skills/career building; 2. hands-on creativity; 3. thought provocation.

Workshop instructors include myself, design colleagues, campus partners and community keynote speakers. Under my leadership, workshops have included: Introduction to Chalkboard Lettering; Recipe for Resume Success; Thinking Creatively; The Art of Networking; Illustrating with Type; Design & Creativity in Film; and DIY Electronic Accessories.
